PELA to be held July 5-10; August 2-7
The UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government will
once again offer the Public Executive Leadership
Academy (PELA) this summer. This year’s PELA
course will take place July 5-10 and August 2-7
at the Rizzo Conference Center in Chapel Hill.
This year’s class will be PELA’s fifth. The
course is designed for city and county managers
and assistants and key department heads to
“learn more about themselves as leaders to gain
the necessary skills to lead and manage change
in their communities.”
The program is designed to learn about issues
and challenges that you will face as a leader;
create a framework for thinking about
relationships with both board and staff; develop
tools to dianose problems and find solutions;
and learn from others by exchanging ideas.
Course director Carl Stenberg stated that they
are hoping to have 30 students this year with
five of those hopefully coming from outside the
state of North Carolina.
PELA participants will stay overnight at the
Rizzo Center for the two (separate) weeks of the
program. Tuition for PELA has increased since
last year.
“This is the time to make that investment
because they are going to be asked to be
creative in the future,” said Stenberg.
